Review: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (Part 2)

The second act of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is exactly what you would think it is....the transitional part of the story. As with any second part of a three-part play, it sets up act three and establishes the characters more. Whedon, who knows how to write structure, does exactly that.

Billy is still pining over Penny while she's dating Captain Hammer. Billy and Penny start meeting like a couple of friends at the laundromat, as she talks about how great Hammer is.....which of course annoys the hell out of the doctor.

(More after the bump)

When the Captain sees Billy in the laundromat, he knows who he is. Apparently Billy doesn't have the same abilities as Clark Kent, 'cause simply not wearing his goggles doesn't hide the fact that he is Doctor Horrible. Cappy made a bad decision by making Horrible mad, as he tells him how Penny is going to get his "hammer". Before that moment, Horrible wasn't going to kill anyone to prove himself to "Bad Horse" --- but now he wants to kill Captain Hammer. We get a really cool song at the end of the second act one assumes is called "You're Gonna Die" to reiterate the point.

There's a couple really good jokes in the second act, including another appearance by the singing cowboys. The flow of the second act seemed better than the first (which had a really slow beginning).

All in all, I'm interested to see how it ends. I have a couple theories on who Bad Horse really is, but I don't want to say them here.

Check out my review of Part Three and the entire event as a whole on Sunday.
