Pike

Year One | Season Six

As his name suggests, Pike isn’t your mother’s sweet little angel. Far from it, Pike was the kind of teenager who skipped school most of the time and got drunk with his buddies before noontime. When he first met Buffy Summers, the two didn’t hit it off very well and a mutual dislike between the two formed, until she was called to be the next vampire slayer and saved Pike one night from a vampire raid. After Buffy’s watcher and mentor, Merrick died in order to protect Buffy from the vampire king Lothos, Pike helped her take out Lothos’ army of vampires, and fell in love with her along the way. Though they did kiss at one point, when Buffy was expelled from school (for burning down a school gym full of vampires), she ignored the fact that she had feelings for Pike and began to treat Pike as a friend instead. Pike felt differently however, growing out of his immature and reckless stage and turned into a sensitive, mature young adult.

After Buffy’s expulsion, she began to sneak out of the house each night, and with Pike as her mode of transportation (he had a motorcycle) she continued her slayer duties watcher-less on the streets of L.A. One night, she came across a clue from that’s night ‘dusting’ – a casino chip from the Golden Touch Casino in Las Vegas&endash; which she believed could be a vampire nest. Working undercover at the casino, the two runaways encountered the Sidle siblings who owned the Golden Touch casino &emdash; Marcus and Mary Lou – conjoined twins with a twist on top of that – he’s a vampire and she’s not! Trapped on a roof of the casino, Pike decided that Buffy could only win the fight if she didn’t have to also protect him – so he solved the problem by jumping off the roof!

Pike’s fall was cushioned by a inflatable carnival top, but Buffy thought otherwise and with anger flowing through her veins, she managed to tear through all of the vampires on the roof and later dealt with the rest of them, reducing the inhabitants of the casino to dust and making the human side of the Sidle twins moneyless with all her customers dead. Afterwards Pike left Buffy, riding into the sunset, feeling that Buffy couldn’t have friends or loved ones and be the slayer at the same time. Buffy returned to L.A., continuing her slayer duties, as Pike left for parts unknown.

Six year after they went their separate ways, Pike and Buffy finally reunited when her current home, Sunnydale, was invaded by the fascist demon group, the Scourge, led by Buffy’s old enemy, Adam. When Buffy was kidnapped and thrown into a monster arena to distract her from Adam’s plans of world domination, Pike came to her aid, using military gear and motorcycle he found near the arena to pull off an ‘Evel Knievel’ stunt to rescue her.

Invading Adam’s headquarters, Buffy and Pike rescued the rest of Buffy’s friends from the Scourge and together they defeated Adam once and for all. After saving the day, the Scooby gang (including Pike!) returned to Buffy’s home for some R&R. There Pike told Buffy’s friends about her rookie season as the vampire slayer. Since he hasn’t appeared in Season Seven, it’s safe to say that Pike is on the road again, looking for adventure on his motorcycle.
