Adam Baldwin

Best known since Firefly as NSA agent John Casey on Chuck and Mike Slattery on TNT's The Last Ship.

After the show

Adam Baldwin joined the final season of Angel in 2004 as Marcus Hamilton, the Senior Partners’ liaison at Wolfram & Hart, appearing in five episodes. He returned as Jayne Cobb in the 2005 film Serenity.

He starred as FBI Special Agent Danny Love in Fox’s The Inside (2005) and as Chad Shelton in ABC’s Day Break (2006). His longest run came on NBC’s Chuck (2007 to 2012), where he played NSA agent John Casey across 91 episodes.

In 2012 he guest starred on Castle, reuniting with Nathan Fillion in an episode that included nods to Firefly. From 2014 to 2018 he played Commander Mike Slattery, the executive officer of the USS Nathan James, on TNT’s The Last Ship, for 56 episodes. Film work in this period includes the Western The Kid (2019), as Bob Olinger, and the Kurt Warner biopic American Underdog (2021), as coach Terry Allen.

In August 2014 Baldwin posted the hashtag #GamerGate on Twitter during the online harassment campaign that took that name, which targeted women in the video game industry. Time reported that he coined it, while The Washington Post described its origin as disputed. Baldwin said the movement was about games journalism.

Lately

In May 2023 Baldwin guest starred on Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star as Austin police detective Brian McGregor, working opposite his Firefly co-star Gina Torres in an episode run by former Firefly producer Tim Minear. In 2024 he appeared as Calvin Webb in the S.W.A.T. episode “Family Man” and in the period film Love, Courage and the Battle of Bushy Run.

In March 2026, when Nathan Fillion announced at Awesome Con in Washington, D.C., that an animated Firefly series is in development with 20th Television Animation, Deadline reported that Baldwin will voice Jayne alongside the rest of the original cast. The project is set between the series and Serenity. As of October 2026 it has not announced a network or platform.
