If you read the official Guides and still feel like you’re missing something, look no further than Keith Topping’s unofficial guide. This book doesn’t walk you through the episodes in the first five seasons. In fact, if you haven’t seen an episode and just read its entry in the guide, you’ll be just as confused as when you started. The real joy and purpose of this book is that it contains all the “little known facts” that fans adore. (Great for trivia games!)

Each episode is divided into sections that cover a wide array of topics from fashion (the best and the worst), music, dreams, and pop culture references, to critics’ reviews, great quotes, just purely “Awesome!” moments and everything in between. For stumped Americans, there is a wonderful section called “I Just Love Your Accent” to walk us through all thing British, real and imagined. Also of note is the “Logic, Let Me Introduce You to This Window” section dealing with all continuity issues from within a scene to the timeline of the show.

Additionally, there are chapters at the end of the book on the (published at the time) Buffy novels, the fandom phenomena on the internet (many of the links are sadly outdated), and two short “articles” from the author.
