Alan Tudyk
Best known since Firefly for Disney animated voice roles, K-2SO in Rogue One and Andor, and the lead in Resident Alien.
After the show
Alan Tudyk followed Firefly with Dodgeball and his motion-capture role as the robot Sonny in I, Robot (both 2004), then reprised Wash in Serenity (2005). That year he also filled in for Hank Azaria in Spamalot on Broadway from June to December.
He played Alpha, the main villain of the first season of Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse (2009 to 2010), co-starred in the horror comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010), and was a regular on ABC’s Suburgatory (2011 to 2014). Starting with King Candy in Wreck-It Ralph (2012), he has voiced a character in every Walt Disney Animation Studios feature since, including Frozen, Zootopia, Moana, Encanto and Wish.
He created and wrote the web series Con Man (2015 to 2017), loosely based on life on the convention circuit, co-starring Nathan Fillion. In 2016 he played the droid K-2SO in Rogue One. Later TV work includes Mr. Nobody on Doom Patrol (2019), the Joker and Clayface on Harley Quinn (2019 to 2025), and Optimus Prime on Transformers: EarthSpark.
From 2021 to 2025 he starred as the alien Harry Vanderspeigle in Resident Alien. The series ended with its fourth season, with the finale airing in August 2025. Earlier in 2025 he returned as K-2SO for the second season of Andor and played a robot in DC Studios’ Superman.
In July 2020, after Ray Fisher accused Whedon of abusive behavior on the Justice League set, Tudyk tweeted, “Wasn’t there, but I have known Joss for 17 years, I honestly can’t even imagine it and I have a pretty good imagination.” Responding to fans, he followed up, “True. I shouldn’t deny another person’s experience if I wasn’t there. It’s ignorant.”
Lately
In November 2025 Tudyk and Fillion launched the podcast Once We Were Spacemen. At its live taping at Awesome Con in March 2026, Fillion announced an animated Firefly series in development, with Tudyk expected to voice Wash again. No network or platform has been announced.
On August 16, 2026, Tudyk was named a Disney Legend at D23 in Anaheim, in the Film and Voice category. He is in the voice cast of Disney Animation’s Hexed, set for release November 25, 2026, and voices Barry Vogel in Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn, scheduled for limited theaters December 4, 2026, and Netflix on December 18. He also voices Doctor Phosphorus in Creature Commandos.
Off screen
Tudyk married choreographer Charissa Barton in 2016.
