Gina Torres

Best known since Firefly as Jessica Pearson on Suits and Pearson, and as Captain Tommy Vega on 9-1-1: Lone Star.

After the show

Gina Torres appeared in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions (2003), the same year she played Jasmine, the god-like being at the center of the final arc of Angel season 4. She reprised Zoë Washburne in the film Serenity (2005).

She voiced Vixen on Justice League Unlimited, guest starred on 24, and led Fox’s hostage-negotiation drama Standoff (2006 to 2007). She later voiced Wonder Woman in the game DC Universe Online and Airachnid on Transformers: Prime.

From 2011 she played managing partner Jessica Pearson on USA Network’s Suits, appearing in 94 episodes through 2018, and she also recurred on NBC’s Hannibal (2013 to 2015). After a season on ABC’s The Catch, she starred in and executive produced the Suits spinoff Pearson (2019). She was a Grand Marshal of the 2020 Rose Parade.

From 2021 to 2025 she starred as paramedic captain Tommy Vega on Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star, a series run by Firefly producer Tim Minear. A May 2023 episode brought in Adam Baldwin as a detective, a small Firefly reunion. Her other recent credits include the film The Perfect Find (2023), the voice of Keeper Yennen on The Legend of Vox Machina, and the animated series Kindergarten: The Musical.

Lately

Torres joined Fox’s thriller Memory of a Killer, which premiered January 25, 2026, in a recurring role as FBI agent Linda Grant, opposite Patrick Dempsey. Fox renewed the show for a second season in April 2026.

In February and March 2026 she co-starred with Carmen Cusack in the Off-Broadway two-hander Pen Pals at the DR2 Theatre.

In March 2026 she was among the original cast at Awesome Con when Nathan Fillion announced an animated Firefly series in development, with the cast expected to return to their roles.

From October 13 to November 29, 2026, she plays Cuban singer Omara Portuondo in Buena Vista Social Club at Broadway’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, covering a planned leave by Tony winner Natalie Venetia Belcon. It is her first Broadway role since The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public in 1994. Torres, who is Cuban American, said she is “over the moon about joining the cast of Buena Vista Social Club.”

Torres was married to actor Laurence Fishburne from 2002 until their divorce was finalized in 2018.
