Michael Hickerson

Hello there to all Hellhounds and prospective Hellhounds! My name is Michael Hickerson, more popularly known as Michael the Reviews Guy. (OK, maybe it’s not a popular name for me, but I’m seriously hoping it will catch on!) I’ve been a big fan of Buffy since the start of season two and started reviewing it since the mid-point of season two. (Ted was my first ever review for Buffy….ahhhh, memories). I later went back and filled in most of the gaps I missed during summer repeats. When Angel came along, I started reviews for it and when Firefly came along, I did reviews for it. (::stifles sob for Firefly::) I am thirty years old, married and living in Augusta, GA with my beautiful wife and two dogs. I graduated from the University of Tennessee and am a lifelong Vols fan. In addition, I support the Washington Redskins and Tennessee Titans. In addition to my obsessive love of anything Joss has done (seriously, I’d tune in for The Yellow Pages adapted for TV by Joss Whedon), I’m a big fan of classic Star Trek, DS9, Dr. Who, Farscape, Futurama, Seinfeld and the Simpsons.

Michael’s Favorite Stuff -

Top 10 Favorite BtVS Episodes:
Buffy episodes:

  1. Becoming, Part 1 and 2.  - Pretty much the gold standard by which all other Buffy is judged. This two parter had it all and more.

  2. The Body - This episode is so profound, deep, moving and utterly amazing, yet painful as hell to watch. I’ve only seen it once and am not sure that I could emotionally handle it again. Should have won an Emmy.

  3. Once More With Feeling - Everyone sings about their problems and concerns…and I loved it. And the soundtrack is way too catchy….it gets stuck in my heads for days after I listen to it.

  4. Hush - One of Joss’s first attempts at thinking outside the box and challenging the cast and crew. Everyone is more than up to it.

  5. Fool For Love - This one knocked my sock off the first time I saw it and continues to impress me on repeat viewings. Essential viewing for Spike fans and proof that James Marsters was robbed of an Emmy.

  6. Surprise/Innocence - Sorry, can’t separate them in my mind because they are so linked. This was the one where I realized what a genius Joss was.

  7. Lie to Me - Hooked me forever on Buffy. Made it from a show that was good to watch and I enjoyed to must see, obsessive TV.

  8. Dopplegangland - Once again, Joss delivers an episode that, at the time, seemed to be just an amusing diversion from a heavy arc. Little did we know how it would later pay off.

  9. The Pack - Underrated season one episode. Really great and it showed off the greatness that is Xander.

  10. Buffy vs. Dracula - Easily one of the most quotable episodes of Buffy ever.

Top Five of Angel:

  1. Five by Five/Sanctuary.
  2. Darla
  3. Forgiving
  4. Home
  5. That Vision Thing

Overrated episodes of Buffy and Angel:
