Juliet Landau

Became a documentary and feature director, wrote Drusilla comics, and kept acting in Bosch, Claws and animated series.

After the show

The daughter of actors Martin Landau and Barbara Bain, Landau had already played Loretta King in Tim Burton’s Ed Wood (1994) before becoming Drusilla, Spike’s seer-vampire partner, on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and later Angel.

After the Buffyverse she worked across genre film, including Toolbox Murders (2004), Hack! (2007) and The Yellow Wallpaper (2011), and built a steady voice career: Justice League Unlimited, the Ben 10 franchise, Green Lantern: First Flight (2009), Green Lantern: The Animated Series, and the BioShock Infinite add-on Burial at Sea (2013 to 2014). In 2013 Big Finish cast her as Romana in its Gallifrey audio dramas.

She moved behind the camera in 2008 with Take Flight, a short documentary about Gary Oldman, and with her husband, writer-producer Deverill Weekes, co-directed Dream Out Loud, about makeup artist Kazuhiro Tsuji. She returned to Drusilla on the page, co-writing issues #24 and #25 of IDW’s Angel: After the Fall (2009) with Brian Lynch, and in 2012 Entertainment Weekly reported she was writing a Drusilla miniseries for Dark Horse; that series has not been published. On stage she produced and starred in Danny and the Deep Blue Sea (2012 to 2013).

On television she appeared on Criminal Minds (2012), played Rita Tedesco in season five of Amazon’s Bosch (2019), and recurred as Cordelia on TNT’s Claws (2020).

Her feature directing debut, A Place Among the Dead (2020), which she also stars in and co-wrote with Weekes, uses the vampire genre to look at growing up around narcissism. It includes appearances by Gary Oldman, Ron Perlman, Lance Henriksen, Anne Rice and Joss Whedon, and was released by Modern Films in late 2020.

Landau’s most recent listed screen credits remain A Place Among the Dead and Claws, both from 2020. She has continued to meet fans in person, including at the Gallifrey One convention in Los Angeles in 2025.
