Selfless / The House Always Wins : The Rant
Hey kiddies, I’m back and I’m ready to rant. Some things have made me laugh, cry, or become unbearably pissed off. Let’s find out which one’s which, shall we?
Buffy: Selfless…self-ish?
– Emma rocks. Period…end of discussion. Nothing else needed to be said.
– I loved the mythology of the eppy. Willow still having the talismen to chant for D’Hoffren, the “Kick her ass” line (more on that in a bit), Olaf’s appearance. This show never once insulted us, it never once said, “Hey we’re Buffy, this is what we’re about!” and slapped us over the heads like they’ve been doing for the last 15 episodes. This one actually *felt* like BtVS, and not a retread.
– Ok…the Xander/Buffy convo. You all probably want to know where I stand. I stand with Xander. In my eyes, I think it’s becoming more apparent that Buffy will have something to do with being the big bad this season, because after that speech she sounded like a complete jerk off. There’s a major difference between having to kill Angel, and having to kill Anya. It was never made known that Anya didn’t have a soul, so we still believe she does. Angel didn’t have a soul (well, except for those 30 seconds before his death, but…woops, too late). Buffy always has her mind made up, even when her friends try to intervene. She keeps quiet until she wants to talk, and then conveniantly says, “You were never there for me anyway”. It’s that sort of feeling that makes me want to go over to Robello and do some Buffy ass kicking.
– Was Xander right in what he did almost 5 years ago? No. Should Angel have died? Yes. Should Anya have died? I think so. But to compare the two is ludicrous. And let’s not forget that Anya was going to let D’Hof smoke her for it, until the double D put the kabosh on Hallie.
– As of now, I’m not a closet shipper of Buffy and Xander. Last night’s conversation makes me believe that Xander is in all actuality too good for Buffy. All this time I thought it was the other way around, but after 6 years of being the lap dog, I think it’s become perfectly clear that the Xan-Man has got his life in order 10 times more than anyone else. Very, very scary considering who we’re talking about…but very, very true none the less.
– The flashbacks were hillarious. The explanations even funnier. I loved the extra musical scene (penned by Joss, by the way). That’s gonna be a bitch to transcribe later.
– Willow…uh oh. I’m just scared everytime I see her turn black-eyed. I shouted, “NO!!!” at my tv. That’s pretty sad, actually. I don’t know why I told you that. Ugh.
– Now I’m in the pro- Anya/Xander crowd 100% for once. I think they work.
– Someone needs to tell Buffy she isn’t the law.
– Oh, and by the way…I think Buffy and Spike deserve each other. Maybe they can join each other in the “we don’t know what we want, let’s just go insane” mental institution.
Final Verdict: I LOVED this episode. “Love” doesn’t even seem to cover it. I actually think it was the best episode since OMWF. That seemed like so long ago. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the ending of last season and a few eppies in between, but “Selfless” is the best since OMWF. Why? Because it wasn’t insulting. Maybe because it was written by a fan? Could be.
Final Rating: 4 STAKES
Angel: The House Always Wins…but do we?
– GREEN FRED IN A LACE NUMBER!!!! Wooooo!
– Testosterone is cooling down now, sorry.
– I thought I was getting used to Lilah and Wesley until the phone sex. I mean, that’s just …eck.
– The story was kinda bland. I’ve never been a fan on “on location” episodes for any show. I don’t know why. I think maybe because there’s too much focus on the setting as opposed to the story.
– How long is Angel gonna let Connor roam the streets? First you can’t stop him for going to a hell dimension for 16 years, then you make him become a hobo. Talk about neglect.
– Right…the trapped in the ocean thing. I keep forgetting.
– Amnesiac Cordy. Yay…if I wanted a soap opera storyline I’d watch Days of our Lives. I hear Hope’s kidnapped or something.
– I hope we now get to see more of Lorne. I loved the whole “fluffy” explanation. ha! The guy makes the show so much better.
Final Verdict: I really don’t have much to say about it. It felt like mostly filler until the very end. I missed Lorne, glad he’s back. Green Fred nearly gave me a heart attack, and Wesley and Lilah continue to creep me out. It was just kind of ho-hum compared to the first two eppies.
Final Rating: 2 1/2 STAKES
Rants Over.
