Conversations with Dead People: The Rant
Warning: Spoilerish to the amount of 10.
– It’s been *looks at clock* 11 hours since CwDP aired, and I am STILL blown away. It was one of those rare occassions in television when something actually scares you, actually makes you think, and actually blows the roof off of what you perceive. Needless to say, I loved every moment.
– The evil of this big bad is almost scary, not creepy….scary. That’s something I haven’t felt since Angelus killed Jenny Calender. And what “Cassie” said to Willow is when it kicked into gear for me. This will be no weak season.
– Drew Goddard co-wrote this episode with Jane Espenson. We all know Jane is good, but Goddard has now hit it out of the park twice. He wrote the other great episode of the year – “Selfless” – and now has his hands in this one. Big kudos to the new guy working the mojo. Obviously he’s breathed new life into M.E.
– I felt as unnerved during the Dawn scenes as well. And no, not because she was screaming. It was the whole bloody mouth thing that threw me. I was like, “Ah! Wipe it off! Wipe it off!” Does that make me a girly man?
– Willow thinking Tara is communicating to her. I was so bummed. It’s funny. I didn’t really care about the relationship as much as I cared that both of them were happy all the time. Joss always says the worst thing in this world is to see a tear come out of Alyson Hannigan’s eyes. I would tend to agree. She makes me melt everytime.
– Where was Xander? Left out like usual, but this time I understand. He had nobody to communicate with him beyond the grave. Think about it… unless they got Larry. Now that would’ve been funny.
– The big debate: Is this actually Spike siring and biting these people? I don’t know, but I’m very interested. For the first time in this whole “soul-having” crap, I’m interested.
– Andrew kills Jonathon. His speech was extremely sad. They just HAD to have us sympathize with him before they killed him off, didn’t they? Some really great moments with the trio in the basement. And like they said on the board last night, that blood on the demonic symbol can’t be good.
– Joyce. I miss Joyce. I think the glowy-ness is to throw you off the scent, personally.
– My Spoiler Speculation: Buffy is the tool of the first evil. That’s my guess. It makes total sense. Her “superiority complex” is something that may be the catalyst for her turn. She may just be brainwashed in the end, but in my opinion, the slayer herself will be the tool. And that’s why Faith is coming back…to help the scoobs save the world. That’s just my own opinion though.
– Final Verdict: A total triumph. This is Buffy The Vampire Slayer. In the last 3 weeks it’s proven that it’s back to being something more unique than the rest…something better. The greatest show on t.v is once again the greatest show on t.v. Drew Goddard, Joss Whedon… the gruesome twosome? I’m impressed. I want more. Give me more.
– Rating: 4 STAKES and some Holy Water in the eyes for good measure.
Rant Over. – Mac
