Sleeper: The Rant
Warning: Spoilerish to the amount of 10.
Ok. I’m very mixed in my feelings for “Sleeper”. On one hand, I think the dialogue is right on the money between the characters. On the other hand, I’m so friggin’ tired of Spike’s soul I want to shoot myself in the head and then do the “I’m bored” zombie dance. For those interested – it’s like the Icky shuffle. Remember that?
– The scene between Anya and Spike was absolutely great…no doubt about it. I wish people would start giving Emma Caulfield some credit. She’s simply maaaaarvelous.
– Poor Xander. He gets about 10 lines and a punch in the mouth. I bet Nicky is sitting in his dressing room playing tiddily winks or something to pass the time while the others, you know…work.
– Ok, so there wasn’t much Willow either. Is it just me or is she acting very intraverted lately? I noticed the facial expressions when she was talking to Buffy in the alley, like she’s very confused but she doesn’t want to ask too much. Maybe it was just me.
– Spoiler Speculation: Wanda (as someone on the board called her, “wrongDa”) from E!Online says that the big bad from Buffy and Angel will both tie in together, but that’s the first I’ve heard of it. Me thinks someone is on a guessing game.
– Aimee Mann: “Man I hate playing vampire towns”. Geez, rock stars. Too good for the undead are we?
– I didn’t have much to say about this episode, mainly because all the Spike stuff happened and I don’t want to piss anyone off to the point of hate mail. But I will say this, I’m extremely tired of centralizing a character that’s not even supposed to be a main character…he’s supposed to be supporting cast. It gets me irritated that 90% of the board would rather talk about Spike than anybody else, even on a week where he’s not around much (He was in about 2 minutes worth of CwDP and 99% of the posts about the eppy were about him biting that girl). It just blows my mind. I love the character of Spike, but people ruin him for me. They make me not like him as much as I really want to. It’s just plain annoying.
Final Verdict: This was a good episode with excellent writing and the last scene with Giles was a very “Oh crap! How’s this gonna happen?” moment. I can’t wait to see what happens next. The plot of the episode in itself dragged on, slowly building at the speed of a turtle with crutches. From beneath you, it needs uppers.

Two More Cents and a dime…
– Cordy was written out of character. That’s all there is to it. I don’t know what DeKnight was thinking, but that schpiel by Cordelia to Connor in “Apocalypse, Nowish” was not Cordelia in anyway. Let’s exam it for a second…
1) She told Angel she loved him, but couldn’t be with him because she could feel all the things he did as Angelus.
Opinion to 1 – Cordelia has been the defender of Angelus from day one. She’s always been on Angel’s side when it came to defending the “He’s not Angelus when he has the soul. Angel and Angelus are two completely different people.” schpiel. Why would that change suddenly?
2) She tells Connor (who tried to kill his father…the man she loves) that she wants him to be able to feel something, and since this is the end of the world, hey why not with her? (Not in those words, but you get my drift)
Opinion to 2 – If the world is ending, why wouldn’t she rather be with the man she loves even if she does have the Angelus issue? If the world was going to end, you would think that she would say, “I have issues with your alter ego, but the world is ending and I want to be with you before we die”. Instead she shags his son because she feels sorry for him. Selfless act, or completely out of character? I’ll go with the latter.
And why did we need to see the bumping and grinding anyway? Come on now. Totally unneeded.
I hope Angelus comes back and bites both of them. That would be a good time.
I loved the whole apocalypse deal, but the ending left me with a bitter taste in my mouth….the taste of vomit.
Rant(s) Over. – Mac
